As reported in Newsweek Magazine website recently, all three of Dare County’s public high schools in the top 1,500 of America’s most elite high schools.

The three schools are First Flight in Kill Devil Hills, Manteo High School and Cape Hatteras High School. Public schools are ranked according to the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate (IB) and/or Cambridge tests with certain criteria.

In addition, First Flight High School’s Journalism Program Earns Tar Heel Award and yearbook staffs brought home 31 awards from the North Carolina Scholastic Media Association Summer Institute at the University of Chapel Hill (June 13-15), including one of only five Tar Heel Awards given to newspapers. The Tar Heel is the top award given for excellence in scholastic journalism.

If you’re considering relocating to an area with an excellent public school system, Dare County needs to be on your list. For more information visit http://www.dare.k12.nc.us/.
